Following 6 weeks of preparation, begging for furniture, fixtures and fittings, and of course stock to sell, the Friends of Agistri Charity Shop opened to the public on the 29th April 2009 at 10.00 am.The President (Mayor) of the Island of Agistri, Giannis Athanasiou, officially opened the shop on the 13th May 2009 by ceremonially cutting a ribbon across the entrance. As we all entered the shop for the first official time, we stepped in using our right foot first, a tradition here in Greece.

This was then followed by the blessing of the shop by our local priest, the Reverend Elefterios Koumasides.
With all the formalities finished, members of the committee, The Mayor, his wife, Father Lefteri and local people raised a glass to the future success of the shop.
We were officially open, and the shopping began.
We are grateful to our volunteers and the local community for all their support in setting up the charity shop.
