The Church of Zodoho Pigi (Ζωδόχου Πηγής) in the square of Megalohori, Agistri is considered to be one of the oldest churches on the island and is the main Cathedral Church for the population of the island.Rendered and whitewashed many years ago, as was then the norm, the beauty of the original stonework has been lost to us...until now.
The Church has now had the render and whitewash removed and the original stonework has been cleaned and restored, providing us with the original look of this most beautiful building.
In accordance with our aim of supporting causes that protect, enhance and preserve the heritage of the island of Agistri, Friends of Agistri made a donation toward the restoration of this church including towards the cost of the roof tiles, specially made for this style of church..
So here it is, restored to it's original glory.
A total donation of 500.00 euro was made to this project.
